The Research:

What if through aggressive and repetitive exercise regimens we could improve lung capacity and overall core strength in persons with SCI? The CPA (Alberta) SCI Fitness and Wellness Center Calgary, has partnered with the Rick Hansen Foundation, Alberta Health Services, and the University of Calgary to do just that. Twenty-seven participants will be engaged in an intense fitness program which will focus on increasing strength, power, and range of motion for enhanced muscle activation, smoother movement patterns, and the building up of core and diaphragmatic strength. The study will run for 36 weeks inclusive and include the design of an individualized training regimen, periodic assessments, and reassessments.

The program is now recruiting for its fall and winter research study. If you are interested and a person who lives with a spinal cord injury, check out the the eligibility criteria and the participant form to see if you qualify.
